This special dress is a tribute to my beautiful mother, Katharine, who has been my steadfast supporter, anchor, and best friend. Sailor dresses have always held a special place in our family, as my sisters and I grew up wearing them. When I had my first child, my mom and I wasted no time in finding the perfect sailor suit. Fashion isn’t the only thing my mother passed down to me; she also instilled in me a deep love for nautical vintage charm. This affection for the sea runs in our family, as my grandfather served as a sailor in the navy. I even have his navy uniform, which served as a source of inspiration while designing Katharine.
In crafting this dress, I made sure to include some of my favorite details in the pattern. The distinctive flap collar, triangle chest piece, and neck ties were must-haves! The optional back sash offers a delightful way to showcase those special nautical buttons or treasured keepsake buttons saved for the perfect dress. With sleeveless, short sleeve, and long sleeve options, Katharine is versatile enough to accompany you on sailing expeditions or be worn as a charming first-day-of-school outfit. The full vintage length skirt with a deep hem stays true to the elegance of the bygone era.
