Introducing Dulcie

I am often asked where I get all of my inspiration and ideas from. The answer is always anywhere & everywhere! Sometimes a new pattern design starts from fashion magazines, from movies or from history. Most often a new design is a combination of several elements, each inspired by different pieces and merged together to create something unique.

Like most art and creative endeavours, the key is to find something that excites you, that you are passionate about, that makes your heart full and let that inspiration guide you. Dulcie was just that for me. The design was originally inspired by the dress my late grandmother, Dulcie wore to my parent’s wedding in the early 70s. It was a full length aline dress with double flouncy cape collar. It was sewn by my mother and I have still have it hanging in my closet today.

Although the final design is an adaptation of the original inspiration, it holds special meaning to me and I am so thankful to Leah for guiding me through to a perfect final pattern.

Dulcie is a standard length dress or blouse. Both options are fully lined and the lining hangs freely, just short of the main fabric. The star is the single layer cape collar. It sits flat at the front and floats with a flounce style ruffle at the back.

The dress and top both button at the front with a full length placket for easy dressing.

A sweet tie bow can be added for that extra vintage charm.

The Dulcie pattern only has a sleeveless option, however many of the Vintage Little Lady sleeves from other designs can be easily added to create a unique piece.

Dulcie is designed for woven fabrics and is available in Girl’s sizing 2-10, Tween’s sizing 10-16 & Women’s 0-20.
